Shanghai GM, China - Automotive, content $1.17 per Vehicle

The Buick GL8 project had significant importance being our first Plexus automotive OEM application in China. In order to develop Plexus brand equity within the rapidly emerging Chinese automotive segment, establishing application credibility and relevance within China was crucial. What is interesting is that our relationship with Shanghai GM began with a completely different project, to build the first 100% Chinese composite car. Although the composite car project was terminated, our relationship set the stage for the GL8 project and future opportunities with GM.

Double Happiness Yachts, China - Marine

We introduced Plexus Marine adhesives to the more sophisticated boat manufacturing companies in China. Our first high profile application was with Double Happiness Yachts bonding the decks and hulls of the Clipper 68 Series around-the-world racing yachts. The marine industry in Asia is gaining momentum and is rapidly transitioning towards new manufacturing methodologies and technologies. Our momentum quickly accelerated the penetration of Plexus marine adhesives in China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand. 
 

 

  
 

 

 

 

 

Aeroflex International, Thailand - Automotive Accessories, content $7.41 per Tonneau Cover

Aeroflex International produces some of the world’s most popular and innovative tonneau covers and truck bed canopies for notable brands such as Toyota and Mitsubishi. The company needed a European compliant and recyclable adhesive to secure a major European export contract. Despite the fact that our products were significantly higher in cost based on weight, we delivered added value by reducing unit cost through increased production rates, reducing adhesive volume, improving quality, and meeting compliancy requirements. Stanley Tool, Thailand - Tool Manufacturing, content $0.20 per Level

Stanley Tool offers a broad range of carpentry tools, laser measuring tools, automotive tools, tool sets, and tool boxes for construction professionals, mechanics and home improvement enthusiasts. Penetrating a major tool manufacturing company such as Stanley Tool would provide significant credibility. Stanley tool was experiencing problems with their high-quality line of carpentry levels. In cold temperatures and under impact load the competitor’s adhesive holding the bubble in place would fail. We provided a Devcon adhesive that exceeded Stanley Tool’s stringent quality and performance expectations. Cobra International, Thailand - Personal Water Craft, content $7.26 per Jet Ski

Cobra International is the leading manufacturer of high-end boards for the windsurfing, kiteboarding and wakeboard markets. Moreover, the company facilitates and produces a wide range of industrial composite products including automotive parts, trucking and shipping containers, outdoor signage, pipes, boats, and PWC to name a few. Gaining confidence and credibility with Cobra was game critical. Our entry application was bonding critical stress and strain areas on the new Hydrospace Jet Ski. Our success with the Hydrospace project resulted in new Plexus and Weld On application opportunities with CMI, a subsidiary of Cobra International that produces world class custom racing yachts, powerboats and dinghies.

 
 
    

Hershey Valve, China - Construction, content $0.15 per Sprinkler Head

Along with a rapidly growing Chinese construction market, CPVC pipe & plumbing systems are gaining greater acceptance throughout China. Cultivating a stronger distribution partnership with Hershey Valve, a leading producer of thermoplastic valves and PVC / CPVC pipe products provided access to several new projects during the Beijing Olympics build, including the Olympics Cube Pool. In addition Hershey Valve provided a significant growth opportunity for Weld On as the country transitions to CPVC fire sprinkler systems. The critical factors for success were being first to market, restoring our relationship and partnership with a highly professional and capable distributor, and developing local capabilities.  

Flakecoat Technology, Singapore - Oil & Gas MRO Coatings

Flakecoat Technology is a leading coatings and linings application service specialist. They have expertise in all aspects of corrosion protection and refurbishment of equipment and machinery in industries such as marine, oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, and potable and waste water treatment. The Asia "DIY – MRO" market is emerging at a very slow pace, and in most cases on site applications are limited to small patching and emergency repair applications. Establishing a partnership with Flakecoat provided us with immediate access to target customers and larger volume opportunities in the petrochemical and oil & gas sectors. Our partnership with Flakecoat Technology established new customers through a new value added channel for mature Devcon MRO products.

Second Chemical Factory, China - Construction, content $42.05 per Cooling Tower

Second Chemical Factory produces a wide variety of FRP cooling tower systems that are used in the commercial construction sector throughout China. Our application was bonding the two piece FRP blade sections. The company needed a flexible adhesive with high tensile and shear properties. Our products were significantly higher in cost versus local adhesive alternatives. However, Weld On was selected based on meeting high performance and quality requirements, and superior technical support. Chinese customers such as Second Chemical Factory embrace innovative technology that celebrates China's success, or is a part of it.
